Disable Unnecessary Services

Because Windows XP has to be all things to all people it has many services running that take up system resources that you will never need. Below is a list of services that can be disabled on most machines:

Alerter
Clipbook
Computer Browser
Distributed Link Tracking Client
Fast User Switching
Help and Support - (If you use Windows Help and Support leave this enabled)
Human Interface Access Devices
Indexing Service
IPSEC Services
Messenger
Netmeeting Remote Desktop Sharing (disabled for extra security)
Portable Media Serial Number
Remote Desktop Help Session Manager (disabled for extra security)
Remote Procedure Call Locator
Remote Registry (disabled for extra security)
Remote Registry Service
Secondary Logon
Routing & Remote Access (disabled for extra security)
Server
SSDP Discovery Service - (Unplug n’ Pray will disable this)
Telnet
TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper
Upload Manager
Universal Plug and Play Device Host
Windows Time
Wireless Zero Configuration (Do not disable if you use a wireless network)
Workstation

To disable these services:
Go to Start and then Run and type “services.msc”
Doubleclick on the service you want to change
Change the startup type to ‘Disable”
2. Turn Off System Restore

System Restore can be a useful if your computer is having problems, however storing all the restore points can literally take up Gigabytes of space on your hard drive. To turn off System Restore:

1. Open Control Panel
2. Click on Performance and Maintenance
3. Click on System
4. Click on the System Restore tab
5. Tick ‘Turn off System Restore on All Drives’
6. Click ‘Ok’

Defragmentation :

Keeping your pagefile defragmented can provide a major performance boost. One of the best ways of doing this is to creat a separate partition on your hard drive just for your page file, so that it doesn’t get impacted by normal disk usage. Another way of keeping your pagefile defragmented is to run PageDefrag. This cool little app can be used to defrag your pagefile, and can also be set to defrag the pagefile everytime your PC starts.
To install:

Download and Run PageDefrag
Tick “Defrag at next Reboot”,
Click “Ok”
Reboot.

Try Also These Tricks To Speed Up Your System

Speed up your Windows 2000/XP system and save resources at the same time

You can improve performance of your Windows 2000/XP and reclaim memory by simply disabling the services that is also known as "System Services" you don't need which Windows 2000 or XP automatically provide by default.

What Are System Services in the 1st place

System services are actually small helper programs that provide support for other larger programs in Windows 2000. Many of the services are set up to run automatically each time you start Windows 2000. However, if you're not using the larger programs that these services are designed to support, these services are simply wasting RAM that could be put to better use by your applications. While the word "Disable" is used here to describe the idea that you'll remove these services from memory, what you'll really be doing is changing the startup setting from Automatic to Manual. When you do, the services won't automatically start each time you launch Windows 2000 Professional. However, Windows 2000 will be able to manually start the services if they're needed. That way you won't be unnecessarily wasting RAM, but you won't be crippling your system either. Note: If you're running Windows 2000 Professional on a corporate network, you may not be able to adjust system services. Regardless of whether you can or not, you should check with your system administrator before attempting the make these changes.

Changing the startup type of a service from Automatic to Manual is a relatively simple operation. To begin, open the Control Panel, open the Administrative Tools folder, and then double click the Services tool. When you see the Services window, set the View to Detail if it isn't already. Then click the Startup Type column header to sort the services by Startup Type. When you do, all the Services that start automatically will appear at the top of the list.

As you scan through the list of services on your system whose Startup Type setting is set to Automatic, look for the services in listed in the Table below. These are some of the services are good candidates to be set to a Manual Startup Type.

Examples of services that can be safely changed to Manual :-

DHCP Client -- You're not connecting to a specific DHCP server on your local network

Distributed Link Tracking Client -- You're not connected to a Windows 2000 domain

DNS Client -- You're not connecting to a specific DNS server on your local network

FTP Publishing Service -- You don't need your system to act as an FTP server

IIS Admin Service -- You don't need your system to act as an WWW server

IPSEC Policy Agent -- You're not connected to a Windows 2000 domain

Messenger -- You're not connected to a Windows 2000 domain

Remote Registry Service -- You don't remotely access the Registry of other systems on your local network

RIP Service -- You don't need your system to act as a router

Run As Service -- You don't use any applications that run as an alias

World Wide Web Publishing Service

You don't need your system to act as an WWW server
If you find a match and think that your system doesn't need that particular service, right-click on the service and choose the Properties command from the shortcut menu. When you see the Properties dialog box for that service, click the Startup Type drop down list and select Manual. Then click OK. As you change the Startup Type for any service, take note of the service's name. That way you'll have a record of which services you changed and can change them back if you need to, as I'll explain in a moment.

Using the Windows Task Manager

Trick : To determine the amount of RAM you'll regain by disabling unnecessary system services, use the Windows Task Manager. Here's how: Before you disable any system services, reboot your system and don't launch any applications. If you have applications that automatically load when you start Windows, hold down the [Shift] key to bypass the Startup folder. Then, right click on the task bar and select Task Manager from the shortcut menu. When you see the Windows Task Manager dialog box, select the Performance tab. Now take note of the Available value in the Physical Memory panel. After you disable those system services you deem unnecessary, reboot your system in the same manner and compare the Available value in the Physical Memory panel to the one that you noted earlier.

Final thoughts

Keep in mind that you may not find all the services listed in the Table set to Automatic on your system. In fact, you might not even see some of the services listed present on your system. If that's the case, don't worry about it. Each Windows 2000/XP installation is unique depending on the system and installed software, and different sets of services may be installed and set to start automatically.
On the other hand, you may find services other than those listed in Table set to Automatic that you may think are unnecessary. If so, you can find out what each service does by hovering your mouse pointer over the service's description. When you do, a tool tip window will pop up and display the entire description of the service. You can then better determine if the service is unnecessary. Remember, by changing the Startup Type to Manual, Windows 2000 can still start the service if it's needed. If you decide to experiment with changing the Startup Types of certain services, you can monitor the services over time by launching the Services utility and checking the list of running services. If you consistently find one of the services you set to Manual running, you may decide to change the Startup Type back to Automatic.

What is a Google Sitemap?

A Google Sitemap is a very simple XML document that lists all the pages in your website, but the Google Sitemaps program is actually much more important than that. In fact, the Sitemaps program provides a little peek inside Google's mind - and it can tell you a lot about what Google thinks of your website!

Why Should You Use Google Sitemaps?

Until Google Sitemaps was released in the summer of 2005, optimizing a site for Google was a guessing game at best. A website's page might be deleted from the index, and the Webmaster had no idea why. Alternatively, a site's content could be scanned, but because of the peculiarities of the algorithm, the only pages that would rank well might be the "About Us" page, or the company's press releases.

As webmasters we were at the whim of Googlebot, the seemingly arbitrary algorithmic kingmaker that could make or break a website overnight through shifts in search engine positioning. There was no way to communicate with Google about a website - either to understand what was wrong with it, or to tell Google when something had been updated.

That all changed about a year ago when Google released Sitemaps, but the program really became useful in February of 2006 when Google updated it with a couple new tools.
So, what exactly is the Google Sitemaps program, and how can you use it to improve the position of your website? Well, there are essentially two reasons to use Google Sitemaps:

1. Sitemaps provide you with a way to tell Google valuable information about your website.

2. You can use Sitemaps to learn what Google thinks about your website.

What You Can Tell Google About Your Site

Believe it or not, Google is concerned about making sure webmasters have a way of communicating information that is important about their sites. Although Googlebot does a pretty decent job of finding and cataloging web pages, it has very little ability to rate the relative importance of one page versus another. After all, many important pages on the Internet are not properly "optimized", and many of the people who couldn't care less about spending their time on linking campaigns create some of the best content.

Therefore, Google gives you the ability to tell them on a scale of 0.0 to 1.0 how important a given page is relative to all the others. Using this system, you might tell Google that your home page is a 1.0, each of your product sections is a 0.8, and each of your individual product pages is a 0.5. Pages like your company's address and contact information might only rate a 0.2.

You can also tell Google how often your pages are updated and the date that each page was last modified. For example your home page might be updated every day, while a particular product page might only be updated on an annual basis.

What Google Can Tell You About Your Site

Having the ability to tell Google all this information is important, but you don't even need to create a sitemap file in order to enjoy some of the perks of having a Google Sitemaps account.

That's because even without a Sitemap file, you can still learn about any errors that Googlebot has found on your website. As you probably know, your site doesn't have to be "broken" for a robot to have trouble crawling it's pages. Google Sitemaps will tell you about pages it was unable to crawl and links it was unable to follow. Therefore, you can see where these problems are and fix them before your pages get deleted from the index.

You can also get information on the types of searches people are using to find your website. Of course, most website analytics tools will give this information to you anyway, but if the tool you use doesn't have this feature, then it's always nice to get it for frëe from Google.
But the best part of the Sitemaps program is the Page analysis section that was added in February of 2006. This page gives you two lists of words. The first list contains the words that Googlebot associates with your website based on content on your site. The second list contains words that Googlebot has found linking to your site!

Unfortunately, Google limits the number of words in each list to 20. As a consequence, the inbound links column is partly wasted by words such as "http", "www", and "com" - terms that apply equally to all websites (hey Google, how about suppressing those terms from the report?). That said, this list does provide you with a way to judge the effectiveness of your offsite optimization efforts.

When you compare these two lists, you can get an understanding of what Google thinks your website is about. If the words on your Site Content column are not really what you want Googlebot to think about your site, then you know you need to tweak your website's copy to make it more focused on your core competency.

If, on the other hand your inbound links don't contain any keywords that you want to rank well for, then perhaps you should focus your efforts in that direction.

Above all else, you really want these two lists to agree. You want your inbound linked words to match up to the site content words. This means that Google has a clear understanding of the focus of your website.

Additional Benefits of the Sitemaps Program

Google has even started notifying Sitemaps-participating Webmasters if they are breaking any of Google's Webmaster Guidelines. This can be very valuable information if your site suddenly becomes de-listed on Google and you don't know why.

Only Sitemaps participants can get this information, and it is only provided at Google's discretion. In fact, Google will NOT notify you if you are creating worthless websites that offer no original content, or if you are creating thousands of doorway pages that are redirecting to other web sites. Google doesn't want to give the sp@ammers any clues as to how to improve their techniques.

How Do You Get Started with Google Site Maps?

The first thing you must do is obtain a Google Account. If you already have a Gmail, Adsense, or Adwords account, then you are all set. If not, you can register an account by visiting the Google Accounts page.

Building your sitemap file is pretty easy to do if you are familiar with XML, and if you aren't you can always use a third-party tool such as the ones that are listed on Google's website. Google also has a "Sitemap Generator" that you can download and install on your server, but unless you are fairly adept at managing Python scripts, you should probably stick to the third-party tools.

At any rate, once you have your Google Account and your Sitemap file built, the rest is very easy. All you have to do is:

1. Log into your account

2. Type your website's URL into the "Add Site" box and clíck on "OK"

3. Clíck on the Manage Sites link for the website you are adding, and add your sitemap file to your account.
Google Sitemaps - An Excellent SEO Tool

Google Sitemaps help Googlebot quickly find new content on your website. They allow you to tell Google what's important, what's new, and what changes often. The tools provided to webmasters through the program can play a vital role in helping you understand how the search engines (especially Google) view your website.

Using this information you can dramatically improve the position of your website and quickly clear up any issues Google finds. You can also use the tools provided by Google to gauge the effectiveness of your off-site optimization efforts so you can better focus your time and energy on activities that bring you the most success.

Tips for Making Your Pages Search Engine Friendly

Most Popular Keywords

The title tag is really one of the most important single things you can work on for improving your website's search engine results. Go to Google and make a search for any particular key word If you look at the top ten entries in that search you will see that all of them have this key word in the title, sometimes more than once. So when writing your title tag, it is helpful to have your keywords included in the title tag, and not only in the tag, near the beginning of the title.
Suppose that your company is the Acme Manufacturing Company and you are selling electric widgets and you are located in California. What should your title tag be? Most people would opt for the name of their company as the first word of the title. It makes sense, in that it looks good in the blue strip at the top of the browser, but it doesn't necessarily help you to get a good ranking in search results for your keywords "electric widgets, California".

Submit Your Website To 20 Search Engines Here

The first few words of your title tag are very important. People may not be searching for Acme Manufacturing, unless it is a very important brand, but they are searching for electric widgets, and they may not want to purchase it from someone in New York, especially if it is not a mail-order type item.

In addition, if there are tons of widget companies, it will be difficult to get to the top of the heap in a search simply for the term "widgets". But if it is "widgets, California", then you will have a good chance of getting a high ranking if you put the keyword California prominently in the title. So, if you are in a very competitive category and your customers don't already know about you, then you might consider a title tag like this "Electric widgets from Acme Manufacturing of California" or even better "Electric Widgets in California produced by Acme Manufacturing."
Some guidelines for the title tag suggest that this tag be limited to 70-80 characters including spaces. I confess to have used more on several occasions.

The next tag that has to be done is the Description tag. Many search engines use the description tag as a way to tell the searchers what the page is about. On MSN, for example, the description of the site shown underneath the title is the description that has been placed in the description tag.

The description tag is thus important in two respects: the search engine robot searches it for keywords to "get an idea" of what the page is about, and this tag will be seen by the surfers as they scroll down through the search results. If it is an interesting and well-written description then they may click through to visit the site. So this tag should be well written but also contain the important keywords that you wish to highlight.

Going back to our example of Acme Manufacturing. We could make a description tag that reads as follows: "Acme Manufacturing is the largest producer of electric widgets in California, providing round the clock service and warrantees on all products." This description contains the keywords again and also says something about the company.

Some guidelines for description length recommend a maximum length of 250 characters. Once again there is no precision about this, but it is good to be cautious until you are already entered into a search engine's index.

The last of the important meta tags relevant to search engine optimization is the keywords tag. In this tag you have a chance to list your important keywords, but this time they do not have to be in a coherent phrase as in the Title and Description. Put your important keywords near the beginning. Make sure that all the keywords used in the title and the description tags are again listed. On top of that, add prominent keywords, especially those that appear in the actual text of the page you are optimizing. For the Acme Manufacturing company we could have these keywords: "widgets, widget, electric widgets, California, widgets in California, Acme Manufacturing, service, warrantee, warrantees".

Many pundits advise against excessive repetition of any single keyword even if they appear in different phrases separated by commas. Once again the guidelines vary and are not precise but it would be better to be conservative at first. How big should the keywords section be? 800-1000 is the estimate provided by some search engines and commentators alike. (Lately some of the main search engines have begun to disregard the keywords tag in their computations of rank, but some search engines continue to use it, so you can still include it in your metatags.)
The thing to remember about meta tags is that they are just one part of search engine optimization. If your text is keyword rich and your page structure allows the search engines to get to this text easily and if, on top of this, you have crafted your meta tags well, then you have an excellent chance of getting the search engine positioning results that you are aiming for. Simple Search Engine Optimization ( SEO ) Truths

Choosing the Right Keywords

Often times, people make the mistake of optimizing for very general keywords like used cars or online marketing. Although these terms get lots of traffïc, it is very unlikely that you will be able to rank highly for them. Then, even if you do, this type of traffïc produces very low conversion rates because they are not targeted prospects.
Submit Your Website Here For Free

For example, if you are selling hiking backpacks, it would be much more beneficial for you to target the phrase 'hiking backpacks' rather than the extremely competitive keyword 'backpacks'. It would be even better to target the phrase 'camelbak commander'. This is a specific type of backpack and therefore will attract more buyers than searchers.

In fact, according to Jupiter Media Metrix, 28 percent of searchers will type a product name into a search engine. Nine percent type in a brand name and 5 percent type in company names.

The more targeted your keyword phrase, the more likely they are to buy. A person who types in 'backpacks' may be looking for school backpacks or snowboard backpacks. This lends to useless, un-targeted traffïc.

However, a person that searches for a specific brand of backpacks knows exactly what they want and they are much further along in the buying process.

Once you have determined the best possible keyword phrases to target, you must nöw optimize your page for those specific keywords.

Optimize Your Page for Targeted Keywords

There are many factors that will determine how your web pages rank. However, one of the most important ones is that of a good title. The title tag appears at the very top of the head section. The words in the title tag will appear in the clickable link on the search engine results page (SERP).

Your title tag should contain targeted keyword phrases that reflect the copy on the page. The most important keywords should appear near the beginning of the title tag, You must also keep in mind that this should be a compelling title that would attract searchers to want to know more.

Your title tag should focus on your primary keyword, but it should also deliver a message. Use your title to mention benefits, make an attention-grabbing statement, ask a compelling question, or anything else that would set you apart from all of the other pages competing against you. Your title should include the main keyword you are targeting on that page as well as entice visitors to clíck on your link.

Following the title tag are your Meta description and Meta keyword tags.

You have probably heard that meta tags are dead and for the most part that is true. However, you should still include them in your web site because they allow you to control the description of your listing in some of the search engines.

Your meta description can make the difference in someone clicking on your link or choosing your competitor.

The meta description tag should be used for marketing purposes, enticing people to clíck on your link as opposed to one of the other 9 search results.

Meta keywords tags are a different story. Google pays absolutely no attention to this tag: a result of spammers. As for the rest of the search engines, meta keywords may be taken into account, but they are still of very little importance.

I would advise that you use this tag for misspellings, technical acronyms and synonyms. Using this technique, you may be able to bring in some additional traffïc for people looking for related, but less popular keywords.

Creating Quality Content

Next, you will want to focus on the visible content of your page. Many people online today are creating content that is written specifically for the search engines. However, I would advise you to optimize your content for your readers. Your readers are the most important.

To rank for your targeted keyword phrases, you must include them within your copy, but you must first ensure that your content is appealing to your visitors. After you do this, you can then weave your keywords into your copy.

You'll especially want to have your targeted keyword phrase in the very first paragraph of your text.

Some other places you will want to include your keywords are in the image alt attributes and within your heading tags. Place all of your subtitles into header tags with your targeted keyword phrases.

Internal Linking

Creating quality content for your visitors is crucial. However, proper navigation and site structure can be just as important.

The search engines cannot fully index your site if it is not properly linked together.

Every single page on your web site should be no more than 2 clicks away from the homepage.

Before you create your site, decide on which internal pages are the most important in terms of ranking. Once you have gathered 15-20 of your most important pages, you will need to place them at the side and bottom navigation of each one of your web pages. This will ensure that the most possible pagerank is transferred to those pages.

Each of these links should contain descriptive anchor text, preferably targeted keyword phrases that you are wanting to rank highly for. You should nevër make your web site visitors guess what's on the other end with a link that says, 'clíck here'. Be as descriptive as possible and your visitors will thank-you.

One of the best ways to structure your site is through the use of hub pages. This is very similar to hubs on a spoke. At the center is your homepage. On the homepage, you have a link to each of the hub pages. The hub pages are basically small site maps that are built into the navigation. Each hub includes a set of information on a particular keyword or phrase. This is often referred to as content layering. You can layer your site through the use of sub-folders.

Inbound Links

Once you have finished optimizing all of the on-page factors, you must focus on some crucial off-page factors.

To have a truly successful search engine optimization campaign, you have to go beyond on-page factors. Your overall link popularity is a crucial ranking factor.

Some of the best techniques for getting quality in-bound links are syndicating articles, exchanging RSS feeds, submitting your web site to directories, syndicating your podcast, sending out press releases, and simply having a link-worthy site.

When you have a site that is full of wonderful, useful information, other sites will start naturally linking to you. You have probably heard that content is king on the internet. However, this is simply not true. QUALITY content is the true king.

In review, keep in mind that the most important places to use your researched keyword phrases are in your title tags, the visible body of your text, and in onsite and offsite links.

Successful SEO takes time. If you continually put all of these strategies into action, you will begin to see the benefits in due time.

World's Best Blogging Softwares ( Sites )

Remotely Hosted Blogging Software

Blogger

Blogger is completely frëe and currently owns the majority of the remotely hosted user base, but not by a landslide. Bought out by Google in 1999, Blogger essentially fired up the blogging trend we see today. It is by far the easiest overall solution to use and, if you are a novice user looking to throw up some recipes or poetry, this is for you. Blogger is completely frëe and includes some great features like comments, photo blogging, and a basic community feel with user profiles. Because it is so dumbed down there are some features you may not find with Blogger that are only available through 3rd party add-ons. As a side note Blogger weblogs do quite well in the search engines and this was recently exploited with it being the first choice for sp@m blogs or splogs. A splog is a weblog used for the sole purpose of gaining inbound links or generating thousands of keyword stuffed pages with Adsense and the like. The recent Google Jagger update cleared a large portion of this up. Free.

Typepad

Released in 2003, Typepad is a product of Sixapart, the makers of Movable Type. It is largely based on MT but there are some major enhancements and differences. Your blog can accomodate one or more photo albums with auto thumbnail generation. You can easily add music, books, and other media to Typelists, which grab a thumbnail from Amazon and other retailers for easy displaying in your sidebar. Typepad is also a great deal more technical than Blogger so a bit of HTML know-how is recommended. On that note, editing your blog to look the way you want is also quite easy and Typepad blogs are known for being very eye-pleasing, intuitive and easy to navigate. In Sixapart's business model, Typepad is aimed at regular home and small business users while Movable Type is targeted at largër businesses or for internal intranets. Price: Basic, $4.95 a month; Premium, $8.95 to $14.95 a month.

Xanga

These guys originated back in 1999 as a site for sharing book, music and movie reviews. Although it quickly morphed into a full blown blogging tool, Xanga still maintains the ability to run a powerful review site. Xanga pulls data from several retailers like Amazon.com including thumbnails, pricing and a cover. The software also is very usable by novices with a powerful WYSIWYG editor allowing for easy HTML editing, adding smilies, links, and other symbols. By using Blog rings it is also easy to interface with Xanga's other 3 million users to share interests, ideas, and of course traffïc. Xanga comes in a free and $25 flavor.

Self Hosted Blogging Software

WordPress

WordPress originally began as a mod of an older open source package known as B2. WP is MT's biggest competition and is often the bain of endless Wordpress vs Movabletype style threads around the internet. Although launched just over a year or so ago WP has really taken the blogosphere by storm. And with good reason - Wordpress is completely frëe under GNU licensing and is packed with many features you will not find anywhere else. It is also much easier to install and get blogging for novice users and has a very large and helpful community. WP runs on PHP/mySQL and is quite scalable judging from some of the very large and trafficked sites I see using it. It also sports utilities to import files from Movable Type, Textpattern, Greymatter, Blogger, and B2. Wordpress recently upped the ante when Yahoo recently included them on their hostíng packages, in addition to MT. I have to admit I am finding myself more and more digging WP and will likely convert Profitpapers to WP as I get time (it can be a biznitch). Wordpress is free.

Movable Type

Aside from maybe Greymatter (the original open source blogging tool), Movabletype dominated the blogging market share in 2002-2004. Released in late 2001, Perl based Movable Type by Sixapart has maintained a large portion of the blogging market share, due mainly to the fact that there is a free version (supporting up to 3 weblogs) and that it is incredibly powerful, intuitive and easy to customize. Template driven Movable Type also sports one of the largest communities of developers and blogging enthusiasts around, meaning lots of support, idea sharing, and of course plugins. Movable Type can be configured to dynamically generate HTML, PHP or any other kind of pages you like, meaning it is incredibly scalable, fast, and loved by spiders. It is perhaps the most well known blogging software for SEO purposes and it is what currently powers Profitpapers and several of my other projects. Moveabletype is either Frëe with 3 authors, 1 weblog, and no support or $69.95 with unlimited weblogs, authors and full support.

Textpattern

Textpattern is the brainchild of Dean Allen and was written to ease publishing of content for those not inclined to learn HTML. Like WP and MT, Textpattern runs on PHP and mySQL for easy administration, backups, and power. What really sets textpattern apart from the others is the integration of Textile. Textile is a tool for easily formatting content for those who do not know HTML. WP & MT have modules for textile as well but it is native to the Textpattern system. Another bonus of the app is its superior handling of comment sp@m due to its smaller market share. On the blogs I maintain running WP and MT, I often find myself clearing out sp@m every day, whereas on some very busy textpattern sites I receive only manual comment sp@m (not bot driven). TP is open source.

Community Based Blogging Software

Slash

Waaaaay back in 1997, Rob "CmdrTaco" Malda launched a website known as Chips & Dips, supplied via his student account at Hope College in Michigan. In 1999 Andover.net acquired Slashdot. Shortly after, the underlying code was released as open source software called Slash. Like Movable Type and Greymatter, Slash runs on Perl, but it also has established hooks into MySQL and a very strong track record of scaling to enormous traffïc levels. To give you an idea, the term 'slashdotted' originated from acquiring a link on this nöw infamous and very popular tech news website - and consequently watching your servers melt. If you have never messed around with Slash, you really should as it is quite a powerful platform. Slash is open source.

Scoop

Another well known Perl based community blogging software is Scoop. Scoop is the software that powers Kuro5shin, DailyKos and many other busy community weblogs. Scoop took the Slashdot idea and expanded on it, making the discussion rather than the news the focus of the application. Where Slashdot entries tend to have a link with added commentary pointing readers off the site, Scoop points to stories written by members of the community keeping the reader within your own weblog. Scoop is also well known for handling large volumes of traffïc and a large very technical community. Scoop is free .

Drupal

Drupal is a well known open source community blogging platform with a very large community of users and developers. Not only is Drupal free but it is damn powerful. Instead of Perl, which is quite hard to decode at times, even if you are a fluent coder, Drupal uses a PHP/mySQL platform. Drupal is also a very community focused application with a built-in forum, download area, and hundreds of other home brewed mods and hacks. If you are looking for a lot of functionality, give Drupal a look - the project has become quite mature. It is also much easier to use and customize than either Scoop or Slash. Drupal is also another open source project.

Prevention is better policy in data loss

We suggest the following few tips to avoid data loss in your system

1) Back Up :

Manage and backup your data on a periodic basis and save all the crucial data on a separate CD or DVD. Update the backed up media regularly. Either dispose the old backup or tog or label it very specifically for future reference. It is recommended that you avoid multiple copies of backup, to avoid confusion.
Use Norton Ghost Software To BackUp Your DATA To Download It From Clicking Here
2) Be Away From Disk Cleaners :

Try not to use the so-called' Hard disk cleaners', for they do more harm than good. Keep the environment around your computer free from dust and excess moisture. Always keep only the data that you need on your hard drive. The more data you keep on your hard drive mush is the trouble to manage. Continuous writing and erasing of data on the hard drive creates fragmentation which slowdowns the speed of the system and higher seek time

3) Fragmentation :

while trying to recover your deleted data never try to defragment your hard drive even if it shows empty because the fragmented data stays on the hard drive even after deletion and possible to recover the same. Defragmentation of hard drive is likely to result in over writing and a possible permanent deletion of your data.
4) Be Secure From Variants :

We strongly recommend you to be away from the temptation of clinking on every pretty looking link on the Internet. Be sure that the sites you visit, the enclosures you open in your
e-mails are secure from any Viruses, Trojans,Worms,Backdoors and so on. Some or most of these variants cause data lose and /or corruption.

Truth About High Paying Keywords In Google Adsense

You will find many sites that will sell you lists of "High-paying AdSense Keywords" or list of keywords that will "Sky-rocket your AdSense earnings overnight"

They make you feel that if you purchase their lists and make your sites based on these keywords, your AdSense earnings would touch the sky.

According to them, Google pays you around 50% of the keyword cost. So if someone clicks on the Ad, for akeyword costing USD 50, you will earn around USD 25...Cool!

But not so cool!

If it was that easy, you would find gazillions of AdSense success stories. Things are not so simple
How many of the people who sell such lists have actually profited themselves from those keywords? I can bet on my Adsense business....NO ONE!

Currently i have more than 1,50,000 keywords that i use to drive traffic to my sites. So maybe, i know a thing or two about AdSense and keywords. Every day when i look at my stats i know what the real truth is. And the truth is not what you think.

** The Truth **
Google never discloses what perce.n.tsage it will pay to the Adsense Publisher. And there are too many factors involved which determine how much Google will pay you.

As i mentioned above, if Google paid everyone 50% on a keyword costing USD 50, you would become filthy rich in no time. Ohh wish life was so easy!

For many so-called high-paying keywords, Big G sometimes pays me not even 10 ce.n.tss. Can you believe that ?

Yes thats true. Less than 10 ce.n.tss for a HIGH paying keyword.

Agreed, there are times when i do receive USD 25 per click, but those are very very rare cases. And those same keywords give me 10 ce.n.tss the next day. So you can NEVER BE SURE how much a click would earn you.How much Google will pay you depends on factors such as
your landing page, your content, Google's smart pricing, the Advertiser's cost of that keyword, and various other factors beyond your control.

So NEVER build your AdSense sites according to High paying

**keywords**.

This is what you SHOULD do instead... Build your sites according to high-paying **niches**.

If you get hold of any keyword lists from any site, You will notice that most of these keywords are about finance, health, lawyers, business etc.

So build your sites based the above niches, and their sub-niches.These niches are generally profitable because advertisers here have got money to spend on Adwords. And hence they are
generally profitable for the AdSense Publisher too. This doesn't mean other niches are not profitable.
Many are. But the above niches are where our focus should be
So you want to know the secret of succeeding in AdSense ?

1. Select several such profitable niches
( more, the better )

2. Make websites for these niches
(using Google Adwords will make your life much easier)
3. Drive traffic using PPC.
( use Yahoo, because its easy and cheap )

4. And yes, dont forget to regularly track cost/earnings.

That's exactly what i have done.

If you do the same, You will see amazing results.
That's a promise.

12 Must-know Tips To Avoid Getting Banned From Google Adsense

Although Google's Adsense program is an excellent way to earn, we need to understand that Google is a company that cannot be messed around with! We should not abuse the system in order to make a quick buck. Many website owners, knowingly or unknowingly, violate Adsense
Terms And Conditions and subsequently get banned.

If you are really serious about earning from Adsense, make sure you do not do anything that can get yourself banned. I have listed 12 things that you should NEVER even think of doing.

1. Never, I repeat, never click on your own Ads:

I think this is one of the biggest reasons why Adsense accounts get disabled. This seems obvious, but its surprising how many people actually do that intentionally.

If you think by clicking on your own ads, you can fool Google, you are highly mistaken. Google has got its own proprietory technology to find out if the publisher has clicked on his own
ads. And once they know that, your account is in jeopardy. Google wants to protect the investment of its advertisers, and it will never tolerate any false clicks. So make sure you do
not make this foolish mistake.

2. Never, I repeat, never tell others to click on your own Ads

I often see click-swapping on Adsense forums. Its kind of If you want a strong Adsense business, stay away from trouble. Dont ask even your friends, relatives or employees to click on
your ads. Do not provide any kind of an incentive to anyone for clicking on your ads.

I feel one good way to protect yourself is not to disclose your website's domain to anyone. Keep it to yourself and you are safe!

3. Never, I repeat, never modify Google's AdSense code
This is against Google's policy. Just use the code as-is. Dont
play around with it at all.

4. Never, I repeat, never put pictures next to your Adsense Ads.

This is a relatively new policy. When i started with Adsense, this rule did not exist. Moreover, what Google actually wanted with this policy was never very clear. Nor did Google do a
good job of clearly defining what is allowed and what is not.

Even i had put some pretty images next to my Ads, and achieved excellent CTR. But here is a rule of thumb. If you are in doubt, ALWAYS play safe. When this policy was enforced, i did not waste a moment removing images that were next to my my Ads. After
all, I love my Adsense account, too!

My suggestion : If you have images next to your adsense ads,
remove them immediately

5. Never, I repeat, never title your Ads the wrong way.

You are not allowed to label your Ads with messages like "Click Here", "Related Links" or anything else that misleads people into thinking that it is not an Advertisment.

You are however allowed to mention "Advertisements" or "Sponsored Links", because your ads are actually Advertisments. And Google is OK with that. If you want, you may prefer not to put
any label at all.
6. Never, I repeat, never put Adsense on pages that do not have enough content.

Yeah, this is something that web-masters may not be aware of. But Google allows Adsense only on pages with good content.

Therefore it is not advisable to put ads on Thank You pages, subscription pages etc. Make doubly sure that you have Ads only on pages with good content.

This also means that you should not put your ads on sites with junk content. Any site that doesnt really add value to the visitor is considered to be a junk site

7. Never, I repeat, never put Adsense on sites that have got prohibitive content.

Make sure you do not have Ads on sites that have got anything to do with drugs, pornography,
hatred, gambling etc.

Again, this is self explantory, but some people simply don't understand!

8. Never, I repeat, never create multiple Google Adsense Accounts.

Google allows you to have only 1 personal account and 1 business account. Google links these two accounts. Never try to fool Google by creating different accounts under different
names.

As long as you do not get caught, its fine. But if Google traces these accounts as being used by the same person, all your accounts are in danger of being suspended.
9. Never, I repeat, never enlist your site in any kind of

auto-surf or traffic exchange programs.
Again, this is against Google's TOS. So stay clear of it.
10. Never, I repeat, never exceed the amount of ads you can display on a page.

Currently Google only allows 3 Ad blocks, 3 Link units and 2 referral buttons to be put on one page.I personally feel Google has allowed more than what is required. So, i dont know
why would you ever want more than this!

11. Never, I repeat, never reveal your Adsense Data

Google doesnt allow public display of your CTR, Impressions, eCPM etc on forums, eBooks, websites or any other publicly viewable media.

But Google doesnt have any objection if you mention how much you earn from Adsense.

12. Never, I repeat, never stay outdated!

Google's policies are constantly changing. It will help if you know what changes are taking place in the world of Adsense so that you can update your sites if required.

If you get banned by Adsense for whatever reason you cannot give the excuse that you were "not aware" of the policy. This will not be of much help. So know the waters that you tread on!
This article, by no means, is a comprehensive list of Adsense Policies. I highly recommend you go through all the policies in details. And never even try to cheat the system.

20 Powerful Ways to Boost Your Adsense CTR

Another great article for you. It is a bit long, but really worth it! Enjoy and learn!
Most people think that just by placing the Adsense code onto their website will start earning them big checks! I am not ashamed to admit that even I thought the same when I was new.
But I soon realized that if I do not optimize my Ads, it is impossible to achieve a good income from Adsense.

In order to earn big Adsense checks, you have to have a good CTR (Click Through Rate) CTR is the number of clicks an ad receives divided by the number of times the Ads are shown. A high CTR means more people are clicking on your Ads.
In this article I would like to share everything I have learnt to boost my Google Adsense CTR. If you follow these tips, you will see an instant jump in your CTR.
In order to achieve a very high CTR ( 30% ) it is important that the following points are taken care of :

1. Google should serve Ads relevant to your niche.
2. You should have the right kinds of Ad formats place in the right places
3. Your Ads should be properly formatted

If you take care of all the three points above, you are guaranteed to have a CTR greater than 30%
Have Google serve relevant Ads
We have to ensure that the ads that are being served by Google are closely related with your content. This is very important because if your ads are not relevant your visitors will not
click on them. Here are some tips to ensure that Google displays relevant Ads on your site Mention your niche keyword in your Title Tag :One great way is to mention your main keyword in the Title tag of your page. This will tell Google that your keyword must be in integral part of your content; otherwise you wouldn't have
mentioned it in the title.
Mention your niche keyword several times in the body of your content :
Mention your keywords a couple of times in the body of your content. This will tell Google what your page is all about. Please do not go overboard with this. If you put your keywords
too many times, Google will think you are trying to spam.
Make your keyword Bold :
It also helps to bold your niche keyword, so that it stands out.You can also use H1 tag for highlighting your keyword. Again, by doing this, Google will feel that the keyword is very relevant to your site's content

Have descriptive names for your images :
If you have images on your page, give relevant names to the image files. For example, if your site is on bicycle, call your images bicycle1.jpg and bicycle2.jpg and not image1.jpg and
image2.jpg.

Do not have too much content on your page :
This is contrary to what many Gurus feel. Having too much of content on the page has got two disadvantages. Firstly, your keyword density for your main keyword decreases and Google may
not understand exactly what your page is all about.Secondly, if you have too much of content on your page, your visitors will get what they are looking for, and will not be tempted to click on your ads. This will adversely affect our CTR

Use a descriptive file name :
This tip is often overlooked by webmasters. But its quite effective. If your page is on bicycles, call your page www.yourdomain.com/bicycles.htm and not
www.yourdomain.com/bi.htm

This will again help Google understand what your page is all
about and hence it will deliver relevant Ads

Ad Formats and their placement

Google provides dozens of Ad formats that you can use on your site. These ads are of different sizes. Some of them are completely ineffective. But some are really powerful. Once you know what kinds of Ad formats to use, you should take care of placing them at the right places. If they are not placed strategically, they will not be clicked on often enough.
Here are some tips to choose the best kinds of Ad formats and optimum placements Use Large
Rectangle (336 x 280) as your primary Ad format :
The Large Rectangle (336x280) works like a charm because it has proven itself to be the best performing format. If you place it "above the fold", its magic!

Use Wide Skyscraper (160 x 600) on the Left/Right border :
The Wide Skyscraper 160 x 600 performs very well on the left or right side of your screen. I prefer putting it on the left side because it gets seen more than the right side..

Do not neglect the Link Unit! :
A Link Unit is one of the most under-utilized Ad format. But if used correctly, and in the right position, it can be really profitable format if put in the right place. It is supposed to
be placed near your navigation menu. Most people will think it's a part of your navigation menu and automatically read it. And if the ads being served are very relevant to your niche, they
will cli'c'k on it!

Try using a Link Unit format that has 4 keywords in them. Thisis because the size of the ad text would be slightly bigger, andlook more like a navigational menu. Also make sure to make the
border color blend with your website's background

Hey, we also have Search Boxes! :
Don't forget that Google also provides us Search boxes that we can put on our site. Do not put them above the fold. But them in a less prominent place further down the page. Bottom of the page or somewhere on the left side below the fold is perfect. Do not expect much money from Search boxes, but anything that comes in extra counts!
Avoid Image Ads : Google also has an option whereby you can select image ads to be
displayed instead of your text ads. Try to avoid this because people are more responsive to text than images.

Have your Ads above the fold :
This is one of the most important tip to increase your CTR. The term "above the fold", comes from newspapers. Any news above the fold on the front page of a newspaper will be read more than any other part of the newspaper. The same rule applies to
AdSense too.
Here, "above the fold" means the top position of your screen that is visible without the user having to scroll down. So if you place your Ads "above the fold", it will be visible to
everyone, and they won't have to scroll down. Your Ads are therefore more likely to get clicked. Also, the area above the fold loads before the rest of the page. So this is by far the
best location for Adsense Ad placement.

Try not to have any other links "above the fold" :
This may not always be possible. But if you can, remove all links that are "above the fold". The only links displayed should be your Adsense Ads. By having any other link, you are giving your visitors the option of clicking on them. This will decrease your CTR. If you do not have any other links, your visitors will sub-consciously be forced to click on your Adsense Ads. This will shoot up your CTR.

Do not neglect the bottom of your page! :
If you have followed the above points, you will find that most people click on the Ads above the fold. But there will be some who will go down the page. And when they reach the end, they
normally think "what next?" To help them, we should have an Adsense Ad to bid them farewell!! By placing an Adsense ad at the end of the page they will often click it!

Formatting Your Ads

We have all got something called "Ad-blindness". That means we have been sub-consciously conditioned to ignore Ads. Most of the time we completely ignore banners on web pages. We run away from anything that remotely resembles and Ad!
The same is with Adsense. If we want to make our Ads noticed, we have to make sure that they do not look like Advertisements. We have to format our Ads so that they seem to be a part of our
content. Once your Ad blends with your page and your content, you will see amazing CTRs.
Here are some tips to properly format your Ads so that they don't look like Ads.

Make the background of your Ad the same as the background of your page :
If the background of your web page is white, make sure the background of your Ad is white too. Our main aim is to make the Ad not look like an Ad. If they look like an Ad, they will not
be clicked upon. No one wants to click on Advertisements, right? We want our Ad to look as if it's a part of our content. So make sure the background of your Ad is the same as that of your
page. This will do wonders for your CTR.

Remove the border of your Ad :
Again, this follows the same principle as above. If you put a border around your Ad, they will look like Ads. They will scream aloud, "This is an ad!" And this will kill your CTR.

If you remove the border, they will blend with your content.

You might think this is something trivial but many people report a massive increase in their CTR, just by removing their border. So let the border go by having a similar color as your
background

Provide ample free space around your Ads. :
Do not make your Ads look cluttered. Have enough free space around them to make them look neat. And if you have blended it well, your CTR would see an instant jump.

Remove additional titles like "Sponsored Links" or "Advertisements" :
Google allows you to mention titles like 'Sponsored Links' or 'Advertisements' above your Adsense ads. I suggest you do not mention anything like this at all. Why would you want to
tell your visitor that they are Ads when Google already displays 'Ads by Gooooogle'?

Change the Link color to Blue :
This has proven to have a positive impact on my CTR. This is because the color Blue symbolizes a link. We have got used to seeing links in blue. So if your Ads have a clickable blue link,
they are more likely to get clicked.

Make the color of your URL and the color of your Ad's text the same :
This again, is often overlooked. If the color of your Ad text is the same as the color of your Ad URL, it will make the URL blend, or melt, thereby making your blue link more visible. This will
make your Ads more clickable!

If you follow the above points, you can be assured to achieve CTRs that most people only dream of. Achieving a CTR of 30%-40% would be normal!

System no longer boots up and keeps on beeping continuously

Even a CPU heat sink and fan cangrow old: over a period of time, it gets covered with dust, the metal loses its cooling capability and the fan runs increasingly louder.

Solvater Tip:

It’s time toget a new processor cooler in the system ; it is best to get one that is extra silent. However, since the new silencer has been installed, you find that your computer simply refuses to start resulting in continuous beeps every time you boot the system.
What seems like a sudden system defect or a fatal installation error is often a misunderstanding between the motherboard and the new cooler . The latest mother motherboards have the rotational speed monitoring in the BIOS which sounds the alarm in case something goes wrong with the CPU fan. This however does not mean that the alarm is triggered only when the fan stops completely. In fact, it rings even if the rotational speed is below that defined in the BIOS. A common value is, for instance 1200 to 1600 revolutions per minute.

Coolers made to produce softer noise regularly go below this value. Nevertheless, fans having large blades provide 800 revolutions per minute for adequate processor refreshment. Only the BIOS of the main board looks at it as differently. These discrepancies can luckily be disabled in the BIOS. Since the PC refuses to start with the new CPU cooler, you first need to install the old cooler again. After that, start the computer and access the BIOS using the ( Del ) or ( F1) keys.
In the sub-menu ‘ power ‘ Power Management ( or a similar term ), select the item ‘ Hardware Monitor and an option for CPU fan speed Warning from here. The alarm there should of the fan can be adjusted here or you can even switch it off completely using the Disable setting if required.
Once the new CPU cooler is installed, you should check that the temperature here gives no cause of concern. To check it out, go in the BIOS once again. Go to ‘ Hardware Monitor . and then to Temperature Monitor. Now keep the PC in the BIOS idle more for 15 minutes. This looks rather unspectacular, but keeps the computer under full load.

The displayed value behind CPU Temperature should not exceed 65 degree and it must not be more than 75 degrees . If that is the case, then the new cooler is too weak for your CPU.

Repairing Vista start files on a dual boot system

Do you have Windows XP and Vista installed on different partitions of the hard disk ? This is not a problem as long as you don’t rerun the old Microsoft OS with a previous image. Vista will not start if you do that. Supplement by using the free tool Easy BCD. Using this entries of Vista boot menu can be edited from Windows XP.

SOLVATER TIP :

You have probably reset Windows XP in a status previous to the Vista set-up and thus overwritten the files that are necessary for booting. For een when Vista is installed on a separate partition. Its boot files are located on the partition that was active earlier. Most of the times, it is the ‘C’ driver of the previous operating system. However with Easy BCD, you can reconstruct the Vista boot files.
The tool is available free under http://www.neosmart.net/software.php Start the computer with Windows XP and install it. You need to install a NET framework for the program to function. After booting you will see the error message ‘ Valid BCD Registry not detected ‘. It confirms the absence of the Vista boot files. Acknowledge it by clicking ‘ Yes ‘,.
In the dialog that follows, select the drive letter of the XP installation for the ‘ Correct Boot drive ‘ and click ‘ OK ‘,
In the next step, select the letter of the existing Vista installation for ‘ Vista Drive Letter’ and confirm by clicking on ‘ OK ‘

Repeat the step ; the tool now copies the missing date from the Vista installation.
Now , you must ensure that XP has been entered in the Vista boot menu again.
For this, click on ‘ Add/Remove Entries ‘ in the program. In the next step, activate the ‘ Windows’ tab in ‘ Add an Entry ‘, Under ‘ Type’, select ‘ Windows NT/2k/XP/2k3. Type ‘ Microsoft Window XP as ‘ Name ‘ and select the drive letter of the XP installation under ‘ Drive ‘ Confirm by clicking on ‘ Add Entry’, Now you can restart the computer.

Use data from the cache as your source of inspiration in Mozilla Firefox

The Webiste you’ve just opened is very attractive. With a little customization you can make it look good on your own website as well. All you need to know is which scripts, files and style sheets has the designer of the site made use of ?

Solvater Tip:

Take a peek and get hold of a few programming ideas. All the information displayed in the browser is locally stored in the cache memory on your computer and can be accessed.
Accessing the temporarily stored content is possible directly through your browser. Type about:ache in the address bar and press the ( Enter ) key. The browser window will display information about the storage size, storage location and the number of cache entries. This display is not very helpful – at least not as yet. On the one hand, information about the file types of the respective data is missing and on the other hand, several cache entries are complied into large files. To refine the display, click on the link List cache Entries to have Firefox display all saved individual elements.
The list displayed contains a link for each element. You can now enter the URL of the website you have in mind through the Search Site menu function. You can also search for a particular file type such as js for Javascript, or for a typical name such as favicon. Then, click on the link found. In the next window, you will either see a direct link to this file on the Internet or the name of the saved file in the cache. Clicking on a link to a JavaScript file will display the code.
You can mark the code and copy it into an HTML editor such as the freeware Notepad ++. The advantage is that it highlights the code in color. This simplifies access to comprehensive codes.

Solvater Tip:

One way to do this is to use a screen saver that can log you out of the system automatically.  This way, you also increase data security.

All you need is some free web and FTP server software, and a broadband Internet connection with a live IP address.
You don't actually require a DNS name service to run a website or FTP server. A DNS is just a service ( it's not fee ) which matches the name of your website ( such as www.yourname.com) to its live IP address. So others who need to log on to your website don't have to remember the IP address, but just the name. Somilarly, instead of going through the headache of registering a name against the IP address and spending money for no actual reason, just host your own WEb server at home using your desktop computer and some freeware. All you have to then do is spread the news around that you have your own website and distribute the IP address link using email or a chat service. For example, if you would like to host your website and want others to access it, just ask them to type the address ( actually the IP address) directly into their web browsers' address bar ( for instance, 'http://xxx/xxx.xxx.xxx', where 'xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx' is your machine's live IP address, It can be accessed from anywhere around the world .)
The same procedure will work for the FTP server too. MTNL broadband in Mumbai and Delhi offers a live IP address with their broadband Internet service for a little as Rs 1,000 per year. Other Internet service providers such as Hathway, Reliance, Sify, etc also offer the service at different rates. So take advantage of this live IP service, creat you personal website and host it from your very own computer at home. The only possible drawback is that if you need your website to be accessible 24x7 you need to keep you computer switched on 24x7 .
Let's now proceed to what you will need to do to build this server and how to get it working. What you need for this workshop is a high-speed broadand connection with a live IP address and any old compute. We are going to use software that can run on Windows XP or 9x, but with similar software you can use Linux too. Let's start with the basics. You need and HTTP server ( web server ) program to host your website and an FTP server program for sharing your files if you need to. We have used Abyss Web Server X1 ( version 2.5. ) and Xlight fTP Server ( version 2. 835 ) for this workshop.

WEB SERVER INSTALLATION

To begin with, downloand Abyss Web server X1 fro free from http://www.aprelium.com/abyssws/download.php or find it on the CHIP DVD this month. Install the server software and choose the way you want to let it launch when Windows Starts up. You can find Abyss Web Server for other operating systems such as Mac OS X, Linux and Free BSD on the same website. After the Installation is done, You will immediately be asked to choose the language of your choice in your web borwwer for the configuration proceduresw. Choose English, then on the next page, enter your choice of user name and password for administrator login. This password will be required for making necessary changes to you server. The configuration page then starts up and you can tweak your server accordingly.

At this point, your web server is actually fully functional and running in the background. To access it, all you have to do is loand your Internet broweser and type thre URL http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and press ( Enter ) ( Where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of your machine ) . The default web page of the Abyss Web server will appear stating that it is working and you can now change the web page of you server. Creat you rown web page using software like like Adbobe Dreamweaver ( which is commercial ), or free software such as Weborama, ASPMaker or Hapedit.
The simply copy the needed files to the folder C:\abyss web server\htdocs which is the Web server's document path. Your opening web page must benamed either index.htm or index.html or default, aspx' you can even change the order in which the server looks for these default files from the configuration page under ' Index Files ', you can even use the same configuration page to add other types of files that you have created. The settingsare now done, and your server is ready to host your very own website.
CONFIGURING YOUR SERVER

Abyss is quite a simple application to use. Right click on the Abyss Web Server icon in the system tray, click on ' Show Console ', and feed in the user name and password that you entered during installation, This will take yourto the default configuration page of your web server where you can customize it according to your needs. For examle, you caneven get your web server to function like an FTP server ( but you cannot uploan files here, only download them ) by using the Aliases' feature, set a name for your link and select the directory or driver you wish tobe displayed to remote people so that they can download files from your computer. For example, if you would like to share the files from the folder
on your computer and want your guests to access it, just let them type the URL http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/download . .
All you have to do is add the aliases using the virtual and real path names. Other options available are ' Users and Groups', Indem files ', Directory listing' ' Logging ', URL Rewriting ', and more. To know more about what each function can do just click on the ' Help ' link located in the top right corner of thge configuaration web page. You can also see statistics of how many hits you get on your Web page. errors, the amount of date downloaded, etc from the ' Statistics' link on the configuration page.

SOLVATER TIP: If you want your friends to access your Webpage using a name for your website, they can do so by tweaking the ' hosts' file in Windows - it's very simple. Let's take an example here - if you want them to use the name http://www.abcdxyz.com as the website address for your IP address http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx all they have to do is add a line http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.www.abcdxyz.com to the end of the page of the ' hosts ' file located at C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\ by opening it in Notepad. So the next time they type www.abcdxyz.com in their browser, your web page will be located and loaded. This happens because whenever they type www.abcdxyz.com their system will look up this file first, find the IP address of your machine and directly log on to your web site located at that particular IP address - a mini DNS server located on each individual computer itself.

FTP SERVER INSTALLATION

Building your own FTP server has never been so simple. All you need to do is download a light, 426 KB application called ' Xlight FTP Server V2.835 ' from http://www.xftpserver.com/download and run it directly without installation. It is aportable FTP server which stays running in your system tray when loaded.

CONFIGURING YOUR SERVER

Start the software and click on the ' New Virtual Server ' icon on the top left corner of the window. Choose the iP address ( the network card you want the fTP server to work on ) and leave the port number set to ' 21 ' click on ' OK' and then right-click on the new server you just made and click on ' Start Server '.

Your server is now running and waiting for connections. But you need to specify which files can be downloaded by your friends and who can access these files. Foir this, you will need to first creat a use rname and a password for those who will be able to gain access to your FTP server and then define a home path for them to download files from, Click on the ' User list' icon and in the page that pops up clock' add user '. Here you can add the user names and passwords which they can use shen accessing your FTP server.

You may choose ' anonymous ' username and no password too if you wish, but then everyone will be able to access your FTP server. Then choose the ' Home Path ' which will be the location from where a user can start downloading files when he logs on.
Your may create folders for each user to serve individual files to individual users. Once this is done, your server is ready for use. Use the same principle as the Web server ti access the FTP server from the Internet or any intranet. Just type in ftp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.21 in the browser or use any FTP client application to access ther server.

You can pause, stop or view logs from the control icons in the fTP server window. Choose the server messages from the setting page, chose the IP addresses you need to allow or disallow from logging into your FTP server, or enable disk quotas for each user.
You can also control the speed limit of each user for downloading and set permissions for each user to upload files to your FT server. Just play around with the settings to finally set the fTP server. Get help on complete details on what each setting can do by clicking on the Help icon. Voila! You have just set up an fTP server of you own.
There are also other free aplications available on the Internet that can be similarly used as free web and FTP servers. Well, now that you have installed your very own servers, go ahead and launch your website and FTP server @ home.

These projects and assets can then be accessed via Bridge or version Cue-enabled cS3 components.

Setting up your Version Cue server

By default, the Version Cue server is turned off,You need to turn it on before starting off with your projects. you are going to configure it with In Design CS3 in this example, since InDesign users will understand the benefits of managing layouts which are frequently changed, and tracking users who keep making incremental changes to documents. If the permisions of the server are set to ' Private', other users won't be able to access the shared project.
Creating a project in Indesign CS3

We set up a server called ' Rudra ' and will be using this for our project. In InDesign CS3, click on ' File / Open; Use Adobe Dialog' if you're using the OS dialog box. Click on ' Version Cue' in the ' Favourites' panel. Choose ' New Project ' from the ' Tools ' menu ( a toolbox icon in the upper right corner ). In the dialog box, click on the arrow next to ' Local Project Files ' to reveal the folder location. You'll also find an option to change the location of the folder for the project, if desired. For now we will continue to work with the default folder location settings.

Adding files to the project

To start working on the project, we need dto add files into the project folder. This will ensure that eachrevision is tracked and saved. This will also enable the files to be shared with your workgroup and managed by Version Cue. All types of Adobe and non-Adobe files can be added toVersion Cue projects. Using the Adobe dialog box from any CS3 application, you canadd one file at a time to the project folder. To add multiple files, use the ' Add Files' command in Adobe Bridge CS3. To add a file to the project open the file in InDesign and choose ' File/Save As .....' Select the ' Version Cue ' tab in the ' Favourites' panel , open the project to add the file and click ' Save As ' In the ' Check In' dialog box, enter a version comment so that other users know what the status of the file is, e.g. the details that have been modified within the file. To find out whether your files are being saved incrementally, make some changes to the document and choose ' File/Save As .....' same filename. A ' Version Cue ' dialog box will pop up asking you to check this file in as a new version of the document. Select ' Check In ' and add a comment to keep tracking the changes made to the file. With this, a new incremental file will be saved in the project folder. To view previous versions of this file, simply rightclick and select ' Versions ' from the menu and you will be able to see each saved version of this document. You can select anyversion from the list and view, delete or even promote it to the current version with the buttons in the dialog box.

How To Get Rid Of WGA Tray Notification ( Windows Genuine Advantage Warning )

The popup notification “This copy of Windows is not Genuine....”can be both embarrassing and annoying.

Validation test failure occurs due to various reasons. It usually happens because someone installed a pirated [non-genuine] copy of Windows on your computer.

If your computer fails the validation test then you will no longer receive automatic updates for Windows over the Internet. Moreover , you won't be able to upgrade to new versions of other Microsoft software.

METHOD 1: You have just updated Windows and have started seeing the nagging notifications, simply do a System Restore [Start | All programs | accessories | System tools | System Restore] choose a recent and previous restore point. Then, go to the windows update (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ ) site and manually select the updates. This time do not select the WGA update.

Method 2 : For novice users There is a program called Remove WGA' that will do the job. You can download it from this link http://www.softpedia.com/get/tweak/removewga.shtml

Method 3 : For advanced users This is a longer process. We do not recommend it if you are new to windows. Even if you are familiar with Windows, we ssuggest that you get a friend to read out the steps while you perform the actions on your computer. At one point, you will have just five seconds to find the WGA process in the Windows Task Manager ( Ctrl+Alt+Del )

  • First ensure that the system files are not hidden.Open any folder to get to Windows Explorer. Then “Tools | Folder Options” and click on the “View” tab. Scroll down to the section “Hidden Files and Folders”. Uncheck the Options “Hidden Extentions for known file types”. Then click on “Apply” and “ Ok”.

  • Click on the Windows “Start” button and then on “Run”. In the “Open” dialog box, type “ System32” without the quotes.

  • Scroll through the long list of files and look for the file named “Wga Logon.dll”. After locating it, confirm the name again carefully. Then press the ( F2 ) key and rename it to “Wga logon.dll.bak”. You must be careful not to rename the wrong file.

  • Next right click on an empty space near the files and select “New/Text Document”. Type the name as”Wgalogon.dll” leave the file empty. A warning message will appear saying “ If you cahnge a file name Extention, the file may become unusable. Are you sure you want to change it ?”. Click Yes on the warning.

  • Next two steps must be done in quick succession. In the System32 folder , find the file “WgaTray.exe”and delete it . Do the next step within 5 seconds !

  • Press [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Del] to bring up Windows Task manager . Click on the “processes” tab .

  • Click on “Image name” to sort the list alphabetically . Scroll down to process names beginning with “W” and look for the process “Wga Tray.exe”. Click on that process and quickly click on “End Process”.

  • In the Windows Task Manager menu, Click on “Shutdown / Restart” to reload windows.

Adding Meta Tags And XML site maps For Blogger to Submit Google sitemaps

Adding Google sitemap to your blog is an easy way to add your blog URL to Google index and get your blog crawled. With Google sitemap, you can get better crawl coverage and search results to help people find more of your web pages. You also get detailed reports about how Google directs traffic to your blog and how Googlebot sees your pages. (Note: there is some controversy over the usefulness of this Google sitemap. with Blogger, you have no access to Blogger's servers and thus have no chance to upload a real sitemap. Google came up with a way for bloggers using Google Blogger to add a kind of sitemap to their blog by making use of the feed. Note this this is in no way making a real sitemap, but I supposed it is still better than nothing. This would be especially true if you set you feed to "Short" and not "Full". I set my main blogs feed to short and am thinking a doing my own version of a sitemap which will consist of a post with links to all the posts in the blog and place a link to that post in the sidebar of the blog. In this way, there will be a links for the search engine spider to follow all the posts. However, this will involve updating the post each time you make a new post, and a lot of work if you frequently update your blog. Maybe I would do both. This is because although some doubt the usefullness of adding a Google sitemap for a blog this way, you will get a report of any problems that the Google spider may encounter when indexing your blog and having my own version of a sitemap in the sidebar will help the spider crawl all my posts.

To add Google sitemap to your blog, go to Google sitemap, and sign in with your Google Account (create one if you don't have one). In the Add site box, enter your blog url as shown in the screenshot below, and click OK

You will get a "Your site has been added to your account. Verify your ownership to view detailed statistics and errors for it" message and a button to verify your ownership.

Click the "Verify" text hyperlink, and you will be taken to a selection box to select your verification method.

Choose "Add a Meta tag". A meta tag will be generated for you.

Highlight this meta tag and copy it to clipboard. Sign into Dashboard, select your blog, click TEMPLATE tab and paste the meta tag in between the and tags. Save and republish. Check the "I've added the META tag in the home page of http://your-blog-url.com/" box and click the [verify] button.

There will be a message "We do not know about all the pages of your site. [Submit a Sitemap] to tell us more about your site. Click [Submit a Sitemap] and in the "Choose type..." selection box, select "Add General Web Sitemap".

Tick

[tick] I've created a Sitemap in a supported format. [?]

[tick] I've uploaded my Sitemap to the highest-level directory to which I have access.

[tick] My Sitemap URL is: [ ]

then enter the site feed URL into the "My Sitemap URL is: box. You can get the site feed url of your blog from SETTINGS. Click SETTINGS, SITE FEED tabs in the Dashboard. In the case of blogspot, just add /atom.xml to the end of the blog URL. (For example, the site feed URL of this blog is http://solvater.blogspot.com/atom.xml.) Then click "Add Web Sitemap" and you are done.

Update 22 April 2007: This post was written before New Blogger (formerly Blogger Beta) was introduced. If you are with New Blogger, use the feed URL. There are 4 possible feed URL for the New blogger:

http://yourblog.blogspot.com/atom.xml

http://yourblog.blogspot.com/rss.xml

http://yourblog.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/full

http://yourblog.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss

substituting "your blog" with the actual name of your blog. The feed found by Feedburner for this blog are:

http://solvater.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default

http://solvater.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss

There is one further thing you can do, and that is to enable enhanced image search. At the bottom of the page, tick "Enhanced Image Search".

What does it mean to opt-in to enhanced image search? If you choose to enable enhanced image search, Google will use tools such as Google Image Labeler to associate the images included in your site with labels that will improve indexing and search quality of those images.
